Teaming Up for Optimal Health
If the first phase of care deals with the symptoms then this second phase is more about functionl improvement. These phases are separated for ease of undertanding although in fact they are part and parsel of the same process of reducing the tension on the spine and restoring your spine to optimal function. The only difference is that during the corrective phase most of the ache and pain symptoms are no longer present.
If all that the chiropractor does is to reduce the pain (phase 1) and stop there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to reduce overall joint stiffness with reduced frequency phase 2 corrective care. At this stage the exercises that you will have been recommended really help to accellerate healing.
It is not uncommon at this stage to experience mild flare ups occasionally. This is because the healing process is not yet complete. Age, duration of inury, indidual healing times and how much you engage in potural and exercise advice all have a bearing on how long this phase lasts. As a guide this phase may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.
